Women over 40 aren’t broken.
They’ve simply never been given guidance that actually reflects what happens during this stage of life.
There’s a moment many women experience somewhere in their 40s.
They start noticing that the strategies that used to work for their body don’t seem to work anymore.
The workouts that once kept them strong and lean feel less effective.
Energy becomes less predictable.
Weight can feel harder to manage.
Recovery takes longer.

And often the first assumption is that something has gone wrong.
That the body is somehow failing.
But in most cases, that isn’t the problem.
the advice many women have followed for years
For decades, women have been given a fairly consistent message when it comes to health and fitness:

Eat less.
Train harder.
Push through fatigue.
For some women, that approach appears to work for a while.
But eventually something shifts.
Perimenopause begins, sometimes gradually and sometimes more noticeably, and the body starts responding differently.
Hormones that influence metabolism, muscle maintenance, recovery, sleep and appetite begin to fluctuate.
Stress tolerance changes.
Energy availability becomes more important.
Yet the advice often stays the same.
So many women simply double down on the only strategies they’ve been taught:
More cardio.
More restriction.
More intensity.
And when that stops working, it can feel confusing and discouraging.
what i see every day
I’ve spent more than 25 years working in the fields of nutrition and training.
Over that time, I’ve worked with hundreds of women navigating midlife.
One thing has become very clear.
The women I work with are not lacking discipline.
In fact, most of them are remarkably committed.
They show up.
They train.
They try to eat well.
They care deeply about their health.
What they’re often missing isn’t motivation.
It’s information that fits this stage of life.
Information that recognises that the body at 45 or 50 may need a slightly different approach than the body at 25.
rebuilding rather than fighting your body
One of the most important mindset shifts in midlife is this:
You are not trying to fight your body.
You are learning how to work with it again.
That often means focusing on a few key foundations:
strength training
Maintaining muscle becomes increasingly important as hormonal changes occur. Structured strength training helps preserve muscle tissue, support metabolic health and maintain physical capability.
adequate nutrition
Under-eating, especially protein and fibre, is surprisingly common among busy women. Consistent, well-balanced meals support energy, recovery and hormonal regulation.
thoughtful training structure
More intensity is not always better. Many women benefit from a combination of strength training, daily movement like walking, and proper recovery.
sleep and stress management
Sleep and recovery are not luxuries. They are physiological processes that influence everything from appetite regulation to training adaptation.
When these foundations are in place, the body often responds remarkably well.
Not necessarily by becoming the body you had at 25, but by becoming a stronger, more resilient version of yourself.
a little about me
If you’re new here, a few things you might not know about me.
I’m a degree-qualified nutritionist and trainer, and I’ve been working in the health and fitness industry for more than 25 years.
Before moving into this work, I was a elite rower, an experience that shaped the way I think about training, discipline and performance.
These days, I spend much of the year living in Bali.
And the work I do is centred around helping women in midlife understand their bodies better and build sustainable, intelligent approaches to health.
Not extreme plans.
Not quick fixes.
Just thoughtful, evidence-based guidance that fits real life.
why i created elutee
Over the years I’ve realised that many women are trying to piece together information about midlife health from dozens of different places.
A podcast here.
A social media post there.
A conflicting article somewhere else.
It can quickly become overwhelming.
That’s why I created elutee.com.
elutee is a free membership space designed specifically for women over 40 who want clear, practical guidance around:
- nutrition
- intentional movement
- hormonal health
- lifestyle habits that support long-term wellbeing
Inside the site you’ll find short videos, articles and resources designed to help you make small but meaningful changes over time.
Nothing extreme.
Just the right information, applied consistently.
women over 40 aren’t broken
and midlife isn’t the end of the story
There’s a narrative that suggests women begin to fade as they move through their 40s and 50s.
But in reality, many women find that this stage of life can be incredibly empowering.
With the right knowledge, midlife becomes less about decline and more about rebuilding differently.
Stronger.
More energised.
More informed about how your body actually works.
If you’ve been feeling like something has shifted and you’re trying to find your way again, you’re not alone.
And you’re certainly not broken.
You may simply need a new approach.
You’re in the right place.
If that resonates with you, you are very welcome to explore what we are building by joining here
